Samsung UE40B7000 Review

First Impressions: The primary thing you notice is how slim the UE40B7000 is. Just over an inch (and less than 3cm) in depth. The black sheer finish to the surround of the television looks good, as does the slim transparent connection between the monitor and the stand. An additional plus point is that Samsung has built-in all of the key parts within the TV – a number of manufacturers have required viewers to find a site for a separate box for such objects as the Freeview tuner.

Audio Quality: Nearly all modern Televisions have poor quality audio outputs and the UE40B7000 is no exception. The depth of the UE40B7000 is not  enough to include a decent sound system. It would be prudent to look at adding a surround sound system.

Screen: The difference with the UE40B7000 is that, instead of fluorescent tubes to supply backlighting, it uses LEDs. Though the backlighting technology is unique, the UE40B7000 remains a LCD Television. LED backlighting has the following benefits:

* An LED backlight technique uses a system of grids to create a more steady backlight across the display.

* Flawless blacks are possible – not the case with more conventional LCD TVs.

* Sports and other fast moving action look better as the television responds faster.

* The colour palette is greater.

UE40B7000 Connectivity: With 4 HDMIs, 2 USBs and a LAN port, the UE40B7000 has all the connections you’re expected to require for the projected future. The USB connections allow the playing of a variety of multimedia file formats as well as to your wireless network (you will require a separate dongle.) And the LAN network port allows easy access to files on your home network.

The  Remote: There are in point of fact two remotes. The main one curves over at one end (planned to lie on an sofa arm?). A bit strange to hold at first, but you get used to it. And a baby remote is also provided – enabling power of and on, together with channel and volume changes.

Cost in use: The UE40B7000 uses around 115W in service – well below the common requirement. Less than a watt on standby.

UE40B7000 Review – Summary: Although the sound performance of the UE40B7000 is not up to the mark, it outperforms its competitors, with dazzling colours and black blacks. The top screen quality in its class.

Customer Reviews

From LV:

If I manage to make one thing clear in this review, it’s that this TV is brilliant. The 1080p is so clear that it’s practically like looking through an empty frame.

The picture quality is superlative; the blacks are deeper than ever and the colours are as vibrant as a bolt of lightning. Compared to previous LCD TV’s I have owned in the past, the samsung led TV’s are a cut above the rest. I’m not sure on the Sony 200Hz motionflow against this TV but the picture looks very smooth indeed. When I say flat screen, I really mean flat! There is literally no room wasted when hooking the thing to the wall and blends into its surroundings seamlessly.

Thoroughly recommended for anyone who seeks exceptional quality from their television!
